Change is Now!

In October 2016, Bob Dylan became the first musician to win the Nobel Prize in Literature. For Mr. Dylan, this honor was in the making for over 50 years and 1963 was the commemorative year.

In 1963, much of the U.S. news was very reminiscent of what we see in today’s headlines: Civil rights issues and the looming threat of war. In contrast and on a more optimistic side, the computer age was in full swing, giving birth to ASCII code, Bell Labs, the push button telephone, and the foundation of the IEEE. Bob Dylan recorded his immortal “The Times They Are A-Changin',” and indeed they were, both politically and in retrospect, technologically too. Over the last 50 years, we have seen such major milestones in technology as the personal computer and smartphone. Both of these utilize the Internet, what was then a little-known 1960s U.S. defense force project. Indeed, there was a technological revolution taking place and that spirit continues to this day with the newest evolution in technology, SD-WAN.

SD-WAN is a transformational approach to simplify branch office networking and assure optimal application performance. It is specific application of software-defined networking (SDN) technology applied to WAN connections, which are used to connect enterprise networks—including branch offices and data centers—over large geographic distances. Riverbed's SD-WAN solution provides an intelligent and intuitive approach to designing, deploying and managing distributed networks for today's hybrid enterprise.
